Festivals and Markets

In addition, there are many markets โ€“ for gourmet foods, handicrafts and brick a brac.
West Cork is renowned for staging film and music festivals as well as a number of other events throughout the summer including story telling on Cape Clear Island.

We are around 20 minutes from Bantry, home of some of the highlights of the music and literary festival scene during the summer in South West Ireland. Combine your stay in our lovely secluded self catering cottage or our compact but cute Garden Chalet and visit the West Cork Music Festivals.

Combining three music and literary festivals spread over the summer months, you can learn more at the festival website.

One such music festival focusing on maritime and Irish folk music takes place in June in the nearby village of Ballydehob https://www.ballydehobtradfest.com/. The Fastnet Maritime and Folk Festival is a fine international music festival. Rock Cottage is an easy 25 minute drive from Ballydehob.

Local Markets

Fridays – Bantry
Saturdays – Skibbereen
Sundays – Schull (high season only)

We would recommend Rock Cottage to anyone.
Jacqueline and Jonathan couldn’t have been better hosts. Open, friendly and very welcoming; unobtrusive but available if needed. The cottage is lovely with everything you could possibly need. Within easy distance of Mizen Head for spectacular crashing waves, beautiful Barley Cove beach, villages, gorgeous scenery and everything you could want for a totally relaxing and interesting holiday including gardens, kayaking and whale / dolphin watching. We had a wonderful time, thank you. Best wishes. Anne and Cori.
